Discipleship is the intersection of our vision to be a community who is Radical in Love, Real in Relationships, and Rooted in Christ. But what do we mean here at River Rock when we say disciple? It starts with the word alongside. Discipleship is walking alongside others as they are transformed by the gospel, pursue Jesus, and live out his mission. Part of living life alongside another person is growing up, and becoming more mature in your faith.
In a world full of competing voices and shifting ideas, truth is what holds everything together. Jesus invites us not just to know the truth, but to remain in it and be shaped by it. We’ll explore how being rooted in God’s truth brings clarity, freedom, and stability to our everyday lives.
Life brings pressure, uncertainty, and challenges—but we’re not meant to face it alone or unprepared. Before we talk about the armor, we begin with the foundation: what it means to be rooted in God’s strength rather than our own, and why God gives us this armor for daily life. This will set the stage to talk about why deep roots are essential for a steady, resilient faith.
In 1 Peter 3:15 we hear “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” On this Sunday we will hear three stories of that hope from people in our church, and how being part of this work has impacted them.
